Lightspeed Broadband moving at ‘light speed’ to bring full fibre broadband to Spalding

Spalding-based internet service provider, Lightspeed Broadband, was celebrating the “light speed” progress of its full fibre broadband network roll-out in Spalding, this week, with the Leader of South Holland District Council, Councillor Lord Gary Porter of Spalding. The network, which will deliver internet speeds of up to 1000 Mbps directly to homes and businesses in Spalding, Holbeach and Long Sutton, will be over 25 times faster than the average speeds currently available in these areas where only an average of 5% of homes have access to gigabit broadband*.

The network build has been rolling out at speed since April this year, with existing underground ducts and telegraph poles being reused where possible to speed up the process, reduce disruption and minimise impact on the environment and local area. Councillor Lord Porter joined the Lightspeed team and their build partner, RCU on Wardentree Lane this week to see their sub-ducting work in progress. This work will enable Lightspeed to lay their fibre under the streets of Spalding and connect up their futureproof network ahead of the service being ready for residents from the Autumn.

Lightspeed announced last month that it is basing all of its operations in Spalding, at Grade II listed Fulney Hall, near Springfields Retail Outlet.  With plans to connect 100,000 homes and businesses to its gigabit internet network in ten towns in South Lincolnshire and West Norfolk by 2022 and ambitions to expand to reach 1 million homes by 2025, the company is refurbishing the Hall to become its new headquarters creating 30 local jobs.

Homes and businesses in Spalding, Holbeach and Long Sutton will be able to benefit from Lightspeed’s gigabit speeds which will enable a super smooth connection for simultaneous professional home working, streaming online entertainment, high speed gaming, and video calling, with no buffering, no lag or drop-outs.

Leader of South Holland District Council, Councillor Lord Gary Porter commented: “It was good to have a tour around their new offices recently to see where they intend to set up the heart of their south Lincolnshire operation.

The extra jobs Lightspeed will bring to the local economy is another sign that the private sector thinks that South Holland is a great place to do business. The relatively discreet way they install their technology is in stark contrast to some IT companies and I urge those companies to learn from Lightspeed’s example.”

Dave Axam, Chief Operating Officer, Lightspeed Broadband said: “We are delighted to be working closely with the team at South Holland District Council as we continue to roll out our full fibre broadband network.

It’s very exciting to see our network build progressing at ‘light speed’. We are re-using existing underground ducts and telegraph poles, so we can build our network with very little disruption and connect customers to our service quickly, with customers being able to connect from this Autumn.”

Lightspeed Broadband’s gigabit network will be available in Boston, Bourne, Holbeach, King’s Lynn and South Wootton, Long Sutton, Market Deeping, Skegness, Sleaford, Spalding and Stamford. It will be offering a range of affordable packages directly to consumers and businesses to cover all their internet and Wi-Fi needs.
