Going ‘Back to the 80s’ at ‘light speed’ with the Deepings Raft Race!

We’re delighted to be the main sponsor of the Deepings Raft Race, as it returns to the River Welland on Sunday 7th August after a two-year break. Over fifty rafts will be taking to the water this year, following the theme of ‘Back to the 80s’!

The raft race will include six individual races including the main race, business race, fun race, ladies only race, pub race and youth race. We’re super excited to be taking part in the business race, be sure to stay tuned for behind the scenes snaps of our raft build!

Spectators are invited to watch, with the best view of the rafts from Bridge Street, Deeping St James and they will also be able to enjoy numerous stalls, street food, and a funfair. Our team will be serving hot and cold drinks from our coffee cart (in return for a small donation for the local charities), so be sure to pop over to enjoy a drink on us and chat to our team all about our 1 Gigabit broadband.

The organisers will also be raising money for various local charities including St Barnabas Hospice, Wake House and Deepings Community Wellbeing Group charities, and they will be asking for donations for wristbands to support the Ukrainian Refugee appeal.

Kevin Barber, a Rotarian from The Deepings said: “It’s great to have LightSpeed on board supporting The Deepings Raft Race. This event is really popular and widely supported in our community, which means we can raise awareness and money for St Barnabas Hospice, Wake House and Deepings Community Wellbeing Group charities. LightSpeed understands the value of community, and their support shows through their involvement. We urge competitors to get on with building their rafts and to send in their entry forms.”

Carmé Mandzij, Our Sales and Community Engagement Lead, commented: “We’re excited to be working with Kevin and the team and to be involved in such a fun event, with a fantastic cause for local charities. I’m looking forward to our LightSpeed raft in August!”
