Users Experience Connection Issues

In a recent survey conducted by Which?, a staggering 53% of UK residents who participated in the survey encountered various "connection issues" over the past year, such as sluggish speeds and frequent disconnections. Among the major ISPs, Sky Broadband emerged as the worst offender, shedding light on the need for reliable broadband services.

Among the leading ISPs - Sky Broadband, Virgin Media and EE had the smallest proportion of customers who reported no issues, with only 32%, 35%, and 37%. BT performed relatively better, with 49% of its customers experiencing no performance problems in the past year.

In contrast, providers like Hyperoptic, Shell Energy, and Utility Warehouse achieved better results, with at least half of their customers not encountering any performance issues in the twelve-month period up to January 2023. However, even with these providers, a significant portion of their customer base, at least four in ten, reported facing at least one problem.

Regarding the causes of these "connection issues," the survey identified frequent connection dropouts as the primary problem, affecting 19% of respondents. Very slow speeds ranked as the second most common issue, experienced by 17% of customers. Interestingly, 15% of participants also reported slow download or upload speeds when handling files.

It’s important to note that not all "connection issues" identified in the survey can be solely attributed to the broadband ISP itself. Connectivity problems can also arise from remote internet services or issues within the customer's home network, such as local network configuration errors, congestion, or poor Wi-Fi.
