Safer Internet Day 2023

Every year, Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of online safety and security. With the increasing reliance on technology, the need to stay protected whilst browsing the web has never been more vital. In this digital age, full fibre broadband plays an important role in ensuring online security and privacy.

Full fibre provides faster and more dependable internet in your home. Unlike traditional broadband, full fibre does not rely on outdated copper cables, making it faster, more reliable and secure.

In addition to switching to full fibre broadband, it is also important to take steps to stay safe online. Here are some tips from Oliver, LightSpeed's own IT Cyber Security lead, to help you stay safe online:

 1. Keep your software up to date. Regular updates help to ensure that you have the latest security patches and fixes, making your device more secure against possible online threats.

2. Avoid repeating the same password for multiple accounts. Choose strong, unique passwords that include a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. When possible, use two-factor authentication/multi-factor authentication.

3. Be cautious about clicking on suspicious emails or links as these may contain malware or phishing scams.

4. Install a reputable antivirus software to help provide an extra barrier of protection for your device and detect and eliminate potential threats.

5. Be careful about the information you choose to share online. Avoid sharing sensitive personal information, including banking information and passwords.
